Alpine Orthopaedic
Total Hip Program

123

At Alpine Orthopaedic Specialists, we understand that approximately 43 million Americans suffer from arthritis. Severe arthritis can limit mobility and seriously impact a persons ability to function in a manner conductive to a productive lifestyle. Medications are used principally in reducing pain and inflammation. There are many patients that require further measures such as joint replacement to regain their quality of life.

The Specialists at Alpine Orthopaedics are board certified orthopaedic surgeons and each is committed to providing you with the most current methods of treatment available. It is reassuring to our patients at Alpine, we explore all conservative treatment options before surgery is considered.

Our specialists address all components of the hip such as:

  • Hip Anatomy
  • Total Hip Replacement
  • Revision Hip Replacement
  • Arthritis of the Hip Joint
  • Hip Resurfacing
  • Minimally Invasive Surgery

When a joint has worn to the point where it no longer functions or carries the range of motion that is necessary for day to day living, an artificial joint (called a prosthesis) can take its place. The surgery to implant the prosthesis is termed a total joint replacement, which recreates the normal function of the joint.

In an arthritic hip:

  • The cartilage lining is thinner than normal or completely absent. The degree of cartilage damage and inflammation varies with the type and stage of arthritis.
  • The capsule of the arthritic hip is swollen
  • The joint space is narrowed and irregular in outline
  • Bone spurs or excessive bone can also build up around the edges of the joint

Is Joint Replacement Safe?
Annually, approximately 150,000 people have hips replaced. Our specialists perform this safe and common procedure and will take the time to review risks with you as well as explain how our post operative program can reduce risk and aid in rapid recovery.
