Dr. Michael Weathers, M.D.

What Dr. Weathers can do for you:

Arthroscopic Knee and Shoulder Surgery

Dr. Weathers performs arthroscopic surgery on the knee and shoulder, which is a minimally invasive technique used to diagnose and treat joint problems. During this procedure, small incisions are made, and a tiny camera called an arthroscope is inserted into the joint. This allows him to see the inside of the joint on a monitor and perform repairs using specialized instruments. Arthroscopic surgery typically results in less pain, quicker recovery, and smaller scars compared to traditional open surgery.

Ligament and Tendon Repair & Reconstruction of the Knee and Shoulder

He specializes in repairing and reconstructing ligaments and tendons in the knee and shoulder. Ligaments connect bones to each other, while tendons attach muscles to bones. When these structures are injured, they can cause pain and instability. He uses techniques to either sew the damaged ligaments or tendons back together or replace them with grafts (tissue from another part of the body or a donor) to restore proper function. This helps patients regain strength and stability in their joints.

Robotic (MAKO or ROSA) and Non-Robotic Partial and Total Knee Replacement

Dr. Weathers offers both robotic-assisted and non-robotic options for partial and total knee replacement surgeries. In these procedures, damaged parts of the knee joint are removed and replaced with artificial components. Robotic systems, like MAKO or ROSA, allow for precise placement of the implants, which can enhance recovery and improve outcomes. Non-robotic techniques are also effective and involve traditional surgical methods. Both options aim to relieve pain and restore mobility for patients suffering from severe knee arthritis or joint damage.

Cartilage Repair Procedures

He performs cartilage repair procedures to fix damaged cartilage in joints, particularly in the knee. Cartilage is a smooth tissue that covers the ends of bones and helps joints move easily. When it becomes damaged due to injury or arthritis, it can cause pain and limit movement. The repair techniques may involve removing damaged cartilage or using grafts to encourage new cartilage growth. This helps reduce pain and improve joint function.

Osteotomies Around the Knee to Help Postpone Knee Replacements

Dr. Weathers performs osteotomies, which are surgical procedures that involve cutting and reshaping the bones around the knee joint. This technique is often used to shift weight away from damaged areas of the knee, helping to relieve pain and improve function. By realigning the knee joint, osteotomies can postpone the need for knee replacement surgery in some patients, allowing them to maintain an active lifestyle for longer.

Endoscopic Carpal Tunnel Release

He performs endoscopic carpal tunnel release, a minimally invasive procedure used to relieve pressure on the median nerve in the wrist. This condition, known as carpal tunnel syndrome, can cause pain, numbness, and tingling in the hand. During the procedure, a small camera (endoscope) and specialized tools are inserted through tiny incisions in the wrist. He cuts the ligament pressing on the nerve, alleviating symptoms and helping patients regain function in their hands.

All Fracture Care

He provides comprehensive care for all types of fractures, or broken bones. This includes diagnosing the fracture and determining the best treatment plan, which may involve immobilization with a cast or splint, realignment of the bone (reduction), and in some cases, surgery to secure the bone with plates, screws, or rods. His goal is to ensure proper healing, minimize pain, and restore the patient’s mobility and strength as quickly as possible
